EXPERIENCE: Previous coaching experience preferred, but not required
Basic Function/Scope:
An athletic coach will be charged with the organization and implementation of a successful program. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop a competitive program that is committed to the creation of student athletes who demonstrate a commitment to academics, strong fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and team/community pride.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Other Duties May be Assigned
- Display sound methods and the ability to teach skills and techniques
- Conduct well-planned practice sessions
- Apply knowledge of skills, techniques, and rules of the sport to assist athletes in reaching their full potential
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct toward players, officials and spectators
- Develop positive team spirit and morale
- Establish and maintain a positive line of communication with student athletes, parents, administration and the community
- Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as required. Maintains an accurate inventory of issues items, and verifies that they are returned at the end of the season
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury
- Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records
- Models non discriminatory practices in all activities
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance, as requested
- Commits to an entire season including but not limited to practices, games (home & away), team building exercise, athletic department meetings, parents' night, award nights, and pep/assemblies as requested
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate Administrator
Physical Demands:
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Exhibit manual dexterity, see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without visual aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand you clearly
- Reaching, carrying, pushing, bending, climbing stairs, and handling items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Listening and speaking to communicate with students, parents, community members, other workers and supervisors
Other:
- Must have strong knowledge of fundamental skills, rules, and strategies of the sport being coached
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the IHSAA rules and regulations
- Exhibit strong behavior management techniques
- Must be willing to meet any state, district, or school requirements
- Hired candidates will be required to complete a background check in accordance with Indiana Code for school employees and RBBCSC policy
- CPR Certification is encouraged
