JOB SUMMARY
As a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), you will play a vital role in creating a safe, enjoyable, and educational camp experience for all participants. Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Directors and Assistant Directors, and working alongside Camp Counselors, CITs will assist in facilitating daily activities, promoting a positive camp environment, and supporting the well-being of campers. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience working with children in a team-oriented setting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of daily activities, including arts and crafts, games, and swimming.
- Help supervise and engage campers, ensuring their safety, participation, and enjoyment.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, and respect.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized camp environment, including setting up & breaking down activity areas and managing equipment.
- Foster positive relationships with campers and contribute to an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.
- Communicate effectively with campers and staff.
- Help monitor camper behavior and reinforce camp rules to ensure a respectful and fun environment.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Be alert and responsive to emergency situations and follow proper safety protocols.
- Support camp operations by assisting daily with meal setup, activity preparation, and cleanup.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must be currently enrolled in school.
- Must be at least 14 years of age or older.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of camp activities, including arts and crafts, games, and swimming.
- Awareness of safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Understanding of teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with campers and staff.
- Leadership skills to serve as a positive role model and guide campers.
- Organizational skills to assist with activity planning, preparation, and cleanup.
- Problem-solving skills to address camper needs and reinforce camp rules effectively.
- Adaptability and flexibility to handle changing camp situations and needs.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must provide two letters of recommendation. One from a teacher/school counselor and one personal reference (non-family member).
- Must provide a copy of the most recent report card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day; work may also require feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, expressing ideas by spoken word, shouting above noises, visual acuity, and walking.
