JOB SUMMARY
This position performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of a variety of light automotive, construction, farm equipment, and commercial mowers for Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) facilities. Work involves operating trucks, tractors, and commercial turf mowers, ensuring equipment is properly maintained/repaired; maintaining grounds including lawns and landscaping; patching parking lot holes; emptying trash; and repairing fences. This position also performs manual labor when not operating equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operates trucks, tractors, and commercial turf mowers.
- Performs landscaping maintenance such as cutting grass, edging sidewalks, and treating for fire ants.
- Performs ground maintenance such as blowing off parking lots/tennis courts; fixing fences; picking up trash; and painting parking lot lines.
- Drives trucks and delivers equipment/supplies to locations.
- Ensures that gas/oil mix ratios are appropriate for related equipment.
- Driving to and from different locations within the Agency.
- Transports tables and chairs where needed.
- Follows verbal and written assignment instructions.
- Performs manual work when not operating equipment.
- Inspects equipment and/or vehicles being used and makes minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of related work experience with experience in the safe operation of tractors, stake body trucks with trailers, and light construction equipment and some experience in construction, building, and grounds maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used in operating stake body trucks, trailers, light equipment, and tractors.
- Knowledge of routine service and upkeep of equipment.
- Knowledge of sports field construction, maintenance, and upkeep.
- Knowledge of playground maintenance and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and irrigation maintenance.
- Knowledge of ball field constructions, maintenance, and upkeep procedures.
- Skill in performing general vehicle and power equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to meet RCRC standards for assigned functions.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License to drive an RCRC vehicle, and produce an acceptable 10 year driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work may also require balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity in data/color/observations/equipment, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands. Requires working weekends and being able to withstand exposure to various climatic conditions.
