What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Supervisor position at RICHLAND COUNTY RECREATION COMMISSION?
JOB SUMMARY
This position promotes and ensures the safety of recreational facilities, employees, and patrons by developing, implementing, and maintaining safety protocols and procedures that adhere to local, state, and federal regulations; conducts facility, field, compliance, and safety inspections while providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers with a sense of urgency and care; collaborate with various departments to promote safety awareness and provide training programs for staff and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety protocols and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of parks, playgrounds, recreational areas, and facilities to identify areas for improvement.?
- Assist with the investigation of accidents, injuries, and property damage, and document findings.?
- Respond to safety incidents and emergencies, performing risk assessments and recommending corrective actions.?
- Identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with recreational activities and facilities and develop strategies to eliminate or mitigate identified risks.
- Facilitate staff safety training sessions to enhance knowledge and compliance with safety measures and maintain records of training and safety audits.?
- Oversee maintenance and installation of playground systems to ensure installation meets national playground safety guidelines and ASTM standards.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation programs for all Richland County Recreation facilities.
- Supervise and direct the work of assigned staff.
- Serve as a member of the RCRC Safety Committee
- Perform other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Associate’s degree in occupational health & safety or related field or equivalent related work experience of 3 or more years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices, OSHA standards, and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with national playground safety guidelines and ASTM standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to identify and mitigate hazards and conduct root cause analysis.
- Skilled in customer service and working collaboratively across departments.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable 10-year driving record.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification is required or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification is required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
- Additional safety-related certifications are preferred
