JOB SUMMARY
The Summer Camp Director is responsible for the primary supervision of camp participants and will oversee camp operations, manage staff, ensure the safety and well-being of campers, and maintaining a positive and engaging environment. Duties also include administrative tasks such as paperwork, payment processing, and communication with parents/guardians.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design and oversee daily camp activities, ensuring they are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with camp goals.
- Incorporating educational, recreational, and creative activities to encourage growth and learning.
- Train, supervision and delegating responsibility to camp counselors.
- Monitor summer counselors’ performance and maintain a positive team environment.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers during all activities.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, emergency procedures and DSS standards (where applicable).
- Address any camper concerns, behavioral issues, or conflicts promptly and effectively.
- Manage camp enrollment, attendance, and communication with parents/guardians.
- Help organize and maintain camp supplies and equipment.
- Take money for weekly payments for summer camp weeks.
- Complete required reports, including incident/accident reports, summer meal count sheets, etc.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, addressing inquiries and concerns.
- Performs other duties as necessary
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Recreation, or a related field
- Current teaching certification or significant experience working with school-aged children.
- Proven leadership experience, preferably in a school, camp, or similar setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp).
- Or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures.
- Knowledge of RCRC rules and regulations.
- Skill to collect data and maintain routine records.
- Familiarity with curriculum development.
- Experience in conflict resolution and behavior management.
- Creativity and adaptability in program design and implementation.
- Skill to perform First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly.
- Ability to enforce established policies, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Maintain current Adult and Child CPR/AED certifications (Preferred)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work involves sitting or standing for long periods as required, may require walking for periodic intervals throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting up to 40 pounds, bend, and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing. Workers may be required to demonstrate an athletic activity or physical exercise.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Requires working indoors outdoors and in active environments with children. Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable, such as music.
