Primary Purpose:
The Cheerleading Specialist will assist in the operations, practices, choreography, routines, and performances of the cheerleading teams for the assigned campus. The primary goal for the Coach is to facilitate skill development, an appreciation for the values of community, spirit, and sportsmanship, and cultivate an increased level of self-esteem, character, and pride for their students and team.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of both competitive and spirit-based cheerleading
Knowledge of routine choreography and composition
Time management, goal setting, and rehearsal coordination skills for effective practices
Knowledge of and background in various performance settings for cheerleading
Knowledge of individual skill level and technique as it relates to appropriate performance tasks
A thorough understanding of safety and overall risk management
CPR Training
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
One year of experience working with school-aged students, preferably at high school level
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Planning
1. Attend practices, performances, competitions, and other group activities.
2. Participate in new student try-outs.
3. Prepare warm-up routines/practice exercise and skill development for the unit.
4. Choreograph, arrange, and implement UIL, sideline, and game day routine(s), both as an integrated part of the Spirit Team (cheerleaders, marching band, dance team) and as an independent unit.
5. Evaluate members' abilities and design performance tasks, roles, and assignments accordingly.
6. Work closely and effectively with the Spirit Team (cheerleaders, marching band, dance team) staff to develop a coordinated sideline performance repertoire.
7. Instruct members in basic and advanced stretching, skill development and cheer related techniques.
8. Oversee and coordinate the program’s participation in the UIL State Contest.
9. Ensure the highest possible level of performance for all HS cheerleaders through proper warm-up processes, effective preparation, and attention to individual members' needs and overall development.
10. Work/fulfill a flexible, varied schedule which includes regular reporting as well as night and weekend activities at various times of the year.
Budget and Inventory
11. Ensure that the cheerleading booster and campus budgets are properly supervised and managed.
12. Assist in the management of all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances, including maintenance and repair.
13. Assist in the selection and acquisition of new equipment and materials, ensuring that purchases are within budget allocations.
Student Growth and Development
14. Be a positive role model for students by modeling behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Support the graduate profile and strategic plan of the school district
Classroom Management and Organization
15. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
16. Apply, manage, and enforce student discipline and sportsmanship in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and constitution.
17. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
18. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the assigned area.
19. Accompany and supervise students and volunteers on out-of-town trips.
20. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication
21. Under guidance of the Principal and assigned Assistant Principal, establish and maintain communication with students, parents, and staff.
22. Establish and maintain a professional, cooperative relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
23. Maintain confidentiality.
Professional Growth and Development
24. Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills and participate in faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
25. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
26. Ensure that all volunteers have completed the District’s background check and participation processes.
27. Plan and assign work to volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
28. Perform other duties as assigned.
