What are the responsibilities and job description for the Southeast Assistant Manager position at Richland Library?
Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Assistant Manager at our Southeast location.
Sample Duties:
- In coordination with the Manager, provides guidance to, and reviews the work of individual contributors and supervisory employees in order to accomplish operational plans and results
- Assists with the planning and oversight workflows and time utilization of staff; assigns and communicates daily activities and priorities to staff
- Serves as a leader of the department / location; provides the best possible example and model of excellence for customers and staff
- Assesses, plans, and implements best practice standards and assures compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Responds to and resolves complex problems related to customer service and daily operations; enforces the Richland Library Code of Conduct and follows established guidelines to ensure the application of an equitable approach to all resolutions
- Carries out all personnel duties for their direct reports in the department / location; interviews candidates, performs reference checks references and selects job candidates; trains and supervises professional and paraprofessional staff; prepares and conducts probationary and annual evaluations; approves employee leave and arranges for staff coverage in emergency situations
- Oversees the comprehensive programming and service offerings for the assigned department / location; may participate in the planning and development of new and enhanced programs for diverse audiences
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget proposal and supporting documents and materials; helps to administer the approved budget, ensuring adherence to all funding and fiscal guidelines
- Compiles data and analyzes department / location statistics to prepare reports, develop recommendations, inform decisions, and identify strategies for maximizing results
- May lead and participate in a variety of other professional-level activities including but not limited to outreach efforts, collection development, technology maintenance, volunteer supervision, and administrative activities
- Safeguards the facility and helps to lead the emergency response for issues with the building and grounds
- Monitors technology and coordinates and communicates effectively with appropriate staff when problems with technology occur
- Executes department / location special events initiatives, for the public and staff
- Explores and cultivates community partnerships; participates in local organizations and community events; serves as a Library liaison to the community
- Follows organizational, County, and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures
- Attends and participates in staff and professional group meetings; stays current on new trends and best practices
- Leads all operations in the absence of the Manager
- Learns and consistently exhibits Richland Library’s brand promises in all interactions with customers and colleagues; provides outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers; successfully ascertains and meets the individualized needs of each customer
- May be required to work nights and weekends based on organizational responsibilities and job requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline; supplemented by two (2) years of directly related experience including previous experience as a lead worker; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and two (2) years of experience leading a department, major business function, or branch of a public library

Salary: $1,837.50 bi-weekly plus excellent benefits.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week to include rotating weekends:
Monday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm; Tuesday 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Wednesday - Thursday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm;
Week 1: Saturday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm and Sunday 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Week 2: Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Week 3: Friday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Job Role & Level: L1; Pay Grade & Salary Band: 6; FLSA Status: Exempt
