OFFICIAL TITLE: Media Specialist
SUPERVISOR: Director of Educational Media and the School Principal
SALARY RANGE: In Accordance with RCBOE Salary Schedules
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 Days

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Media Specialist participates as a member of the instructional team, planning with the administrator and teachers to identify select and provide the best resources to meet learner needs. The media specialist must insure a unified media program which is effectively managed, instructional-related and accessible to all. The media specialist fosters literacy competence and ensures teachers/students are effective users of technology.
Performance Responsibilities
appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department
handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system
and its mission.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Proficient in field of library science and in instructional technology.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree in Library and Information Science.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Georgia Media Specialist certificate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Bending, kneeling, pushing, moving, lifting moderately heavy objects.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: May have to work extra hours and occasional weekends.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Richmond County School System evaluation policy.

- Coordinates the building media/technology committee.
- Implements established media policies and standards, principles of Intellectual Freedom,
- Manages and insures accessibility to media resources, equipment, and facilities. *
- Creates and fosters a climate that motivates effective utilization of media facilities, resources,
- Collaborates with teachers and students concerning the school website and multimedia uses.*
- Utilizes current research and methods in the areas of technology and library and information
- Prepares and oversees the library media program budget. *
- Maintains and enhances professional knowledge in technology and trends in information
- The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed
