JOB QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Associate degree from an accredited university, college, or technical school.
Certification or Licensure : Must possess a valid Class A or Class B state commercial driver's license with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements.
Skills : Must possess a strong organizational background, and have the skills and knowledge of safety, security, and data systems.
Work Experience : Minimum three years of experience in safety, transportation, and security-related areas preferred.
PRIMARY DUTY :
This position is responsible for supporting the overall safety and customer service goals of the Transportation Department. The Safety Technician will assist the Safety and Customer Service Coordinator with monitoring and tracking the safety concerns of the transportation department. Will also assume responsibility for responding to complaints assigned by the Safety and Customer Service Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Check all surveillance cameras on the buses on a rotating basis to ensure they are all operational.
2. Learn, analyze, interpret, and apply the provisions of the Georgia Vehicle Code, Education Code, and Georgia Code of Regulations affecting school pupil transportation and safety.
3. Assist the Safety and Customer Service Coordinator in the development and implementation of a safety training program for students as mandated by the Georgia Department of Education.
4. Manage to resolve complaints of diverse parents, employees, school officials, and others.
5. Organize tasks and activities in order of priority; and analyze situations accurately.
6. Investigate and provide updates for incidents assigned by the Safety and Customer Service Coordinator.
7. Assist in camera system installation, repairs, and adjustments.
8. Assist in all driver safety training and post-accident remedial training.
9. Coordinate bus safety with school administrators as needed.
10. Assist the Safety Coordinator with all aspects of the Transportation Bus Safety Program.
11. Assist in the investigation of bus issues reported by school officials.
12. Inspection of the buses regarding the cleanliness of the interior of the vehicles.
13. Distribution of school bus surveillance camera video to school officials in a timely manner.
14. Must check surveillance cameras monthly to ensure they are in proper working order.
15. Conduct periodic meetings / counseling sessions with Transportation Department personnel to ensure understanding and compliance with State, District, and Department safety requirements and protocols.
16. Ability to speak to the public professionally.
17. Ability to address the problematic complaints.
18. Assist in the development and implementation of workshops / training for drivers relative to handling emergencies, accidents, pupil behavior, safe / defensive driving, and other identified professional development areas.
19. Assist the Safety and Customer Service Coordinator with interviewing witnesses regarding accidents, complaints, and any other transportation safety-related issues and concerns.
20. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; prepare clear and concise reports of a sensitive nature.
- 21. Analyze situations accurately, exercise good judgment, and take effective action while investigating sensitive situations;
22. Exercise the ability to maintain confidentiality, discreteness, and neutrality when addressing concerns to assess information avoiding harassment.
23. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Overtime, evening, and night work may be required as well as an occasional weekend.
