Nurse Practitioner, Electrophysiology

Providing advanced nursing care to patients with heart rhythm disorders, including performing diagnostic tests (echocardiogram, stress test, CT/MRIs, etc.), interpreting results, developing treatment plans, educating patients on heart conditions and lifestyle modifications, and managing their care in collaboration with cardiologists, all collaboratively while staying updated on the latest advancements in electrophysiology. Working collaboratively with another NP in Electrophysiology.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

OFFICE

· Perform evaluations of established patients and problem-based visits.

· Assess and manage patients’ illnesses including evaluation of patients’ response to treatment.

· Provide telephone and patient portal evaluation of patients’ symptoms, response to treatment, and general questions and concerns. The physician should be consulted as indicated.

· Education of patients regarding their condition, self-management and monitoring, lifestyle modifications (smoking cessation, dietary changes, exercise) medication use and side effects.

· Counseling and education of patients and their families.

· Evaluate test results, providing feedback to patients, consulting with the physician when indicated

· Review device and monitor transmissions, coordinating any actions needed (ordering testing indicated, medication addition/changes, device modifications) with the physician and device nurse.

· Document all patient encounters and verify that all charges for the patients’ visit are noted on the charge entry.

· Order and interpret routine laboratory and diagnostic studies

· Perform supervised evaluations and procedures including reprogramming of pacemakers.

· Function as a co-coordinator of the practice’s device clinic.

· Prescribe, adjust, and monitor drug therapies based upon credentials and licensure.

· Consulting with physicians or specialists when indicated.

HOSPITAL

The position requires occasional general cardiology weekend call at a single hospital with interventional cardiology physician back-up. From time to time, the NP may also be asked to assist with daytime hospital rounding and consults, depending on staffing needs.

ON CALL:

  • Act as liaison between physicians and hospital staff to provide continuity of care.
  • Respond to hospital pages for consults/admits.
  • Initial screening of ER patients with ER physician.

· Conduct inpatient history and physical exam and follow-up as needed.

  • Submit charges to the office for all new admits and daily charges.
  • Contact referring physician regarding patient status and modify patient treatment phases as discussed.
  • Coordinate/facilitate office and/or hospital follow up and diagnostic tests (when necessary).
  • Conduct patient and family education for patients discharged; write discharge orders
  • Utilize back up interventionalist as needed

DAYTIME COVERAGE:

· Contact referring physician regarding patient status and modify patient treatment phases as directed by the physician.

· Verify changes in medication with physician for inpatients, write orders.

· Prepare discharge summaries/paperwork.

· Consult with primary cardiologist as necessary.

· Initial screening of ER patients with ER physician.

· Other hospital-related duties, as assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

· Professional certification as Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

· Current Nurse Practitioner certification with ANCC or AANP.

· Minimum of three years Nurse Practitioner experience preferred but not required.

· Autonomous practice license preferred but not required

· Ability to make independent decisions.

· Present a professional appearance and attitude with patients and staff.

· Complete annual education requirements appropriate to credentials.

· Maintain appropriate licensure / credentials in good standing.

· Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $120,000.00 per year
