What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Site Supervisor position at Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity?
JOB PURPOSE:
The Construction Supervisor is the heart and soul of Habitat for Humanity’s mission. The Construction Supervisor is responsible for managing the completion of construction projects throughout the Richmond Metro area and ensuring quality, durability, and safety remain at the forefront of Habitat’s work.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential
- Act as an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity; orients volunteers with Habitat’s Mission, safety protocols, and daily tasks.
- Execute construction projects by organizing, planning, and overseeing daily tasks.
- Enforce all Habitat Safety protocols on site. Maintain required safety certifications.
- Assign tasks to volunteers based on skill levels and demonstrate what volunteers need to do to complete daily tasks.
- Track and communicate necessary updates to the build schedule, working with the VP of Construction to complete projects on time.
- Coordinate materials and trades on site in conjunction with the VP of Construction
- Support trades by ensuring the project is clean and fully prepared for each construction phase.
- Identify deficiencies and work with sub-contractors to ensure needed corrections are made.
- Manage the security of assigned projects and secures material and tools against theft and damage from weather and heavy equipment.
- Prepare volunteer tasks for each workday and communicate volunteer needs to the Community Engagement team.
- Proactively minimize construction project expenses and address any issues related to the delivery of assigned construction projects.
- Check deliveries against purchase orders and communicate with the project manager for any additional needs.
- Maintain a clean and orderly job site and stores and maintain materials to promote efficiency and safety on site.
- Maintain physical and online organized records of all aspects of the construction project. Submit invoices for reimbursement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Non-essential
- Manage the budget for the site with the VP of Construction.
- Assist in developing of best practices for volunteer-specific construction.
- Participate in various meetings representing Habitat with community partners.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s global mission, principles, and structure.
- Demonstrable knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and local regulations.
- Must have a general understanding of the following: framing, siding, trim carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Must have an understanding of residential and multi-family construction best practices.
- Must be able to teach and relay construction and safety terminology and concepts to skilled and unskilled workers and volunteers.
- Must be able to drive large vehicles (e.g., van, pickup truck, or trailers)
- Ability to solicit, establish, and maintain effective relationships with all trade, volunteer, and business partners.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
PHSYICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to attend some evening and weekend meetings as required.
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time (assisted).
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 years of construction related experience
- Willingness to acquire and renew Habitat’s Competent Person Safety Certification annually
- Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
PREFFERED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years management or human services experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $29.23 - $38.21 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
