Job Summary:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices and insurance claims. This role includes working with payers such as Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance companies, handling denied and rejected claims, posting remits, and providing excellent customer service. The Billing Specialist plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the billing cycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer incoming billing-related calls and assist patients or clients with inquiries
- Prepare and issue accurate customer invoices according to policy and payer guidelines
- Review, work, and resolve denied claims (open remits) from Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
- Work rejected claims through claims management systems, ensuring timely resubmission or correction
- Key in remits and ensure accurate posting of payments, adjustments, and denials
- Monitor patient accounts and follow up on outstanding balances
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., clinical, customer service, coding) to resolve billing discrepancies
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate billing records, logs, and reports
- Assist in monthly closing processes and reporting as required
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer requirements
- Recommend process improvements to enhance billing accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- 2 years of billing experience, preferably in a healthcare or insurance environment
- Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing procedures
- Experience working denied and rejected claims, posting remits, and claims management systems
- Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
