General Description:
Plan and implement student bus routes while maintaining the routing database and ensuring maximum efficiency. Provide customer service to parents and school administrators regarding student transportation. Process transportation requests for primary and special activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the planning and implementation of the computerized transportation routing system for the school division.
- Analyzes complex factors and data pertaining to vehicle capacity, timing, road systems, and safety concerns in order to develop school bus routes and schedules.
- Analyzes and implements stop and route changes as requested.
- Provides updated route sheets, as changes are made, to all parties concerned.
- Performs physical audits of routes as necessary for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Make recommendations and assist supervisors with all aspects of the transportation planning function.
- Works closely with other division departments, county departments, state and local officials, and the public on issues related to routing.
- Verifies student data related to routing and prepares reports and studies, as well as analyzes data for division and department use.
- Maintains a working knowledge of computer-based software used to support the transportation function.
- Maintains records, routes, maps and data pertaining to routing for division and department use.
- Prepares and distributes stop information annually to parents of all division students.
- Provides analysis and recommendations for walk and transportation boundaries as required.
- Works closely with the IT department in maintaining systems, networks, support, and backups.
- Trains the department office staff and the school-based personnel on computer routing.
- Plans daily activities with the data entry operator. Performs related work as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or its equivalency with at least two years of experience in pupil transportation planning and routing
- Possesses excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Bilingual skills to include Spanish, preferred
- Ability to exercise tact and demonstrate good judgment and initiative in the completion of assignments
- Possess a willingness and ability to adjust to change and learn new tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with all employees at the school administration, business, and community representatives
- Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
- Efficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and skilled in using internet-based applications
