GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) role prepares individuals for careers in healthcare, specifically as certified nursing assistants. This position involves coordinating programs and educating students who aspire to enter the healthcare industry. Students receive comprehensive training and skills necessary for their future roles as CNAs, contributing directly to the development of competent healthcare professionals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employs a wide variety of teaching methods designed to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability within a class.
- Develops lesson plans, organizes teaching materials, creates assessments, provides clinical instruction, and delivers instruction aligned with the course curriculum.
- Coordinates all aspects of the CNA training program including securing clinical placements and managing program logistics.
- Collaborates with school administration, healthcare facilities, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with program requirements and regulations.
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance, skills, and performance in accordance with state-approved competency evaluation programs.
- Maintains current and comprehensive curricula, utilizing appropriate methods to assess student performance in the classroom and laboratory, ensuring alignment with state standards and industry best practices.
- Prepares a syllabus for each assigned course which meets VDOE content requirements.
- Ensures students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully obtain state certification and effectively prepare for employment as Certified Nurse Assistants.
- Serves as an advisor for HOSA, a student-led future health professionals’ organization.
- Participates in on-going professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance.
- Maintains confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia professional teaching license with an endorsement in Health Occupations Education.
- Currently hold an unrestricted Virginia license or multistate license privileges as a registered nurse.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred; Master's degree and teaching license are preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse are required within the previous five years and at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of geriatric long-term care services. Other experience may include employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care facility.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Conduct and manage a classroom and practical laboratory for teaching the related skills to
high school students. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 30 pounds. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
