Position Overview:
Meat cutting experience and excellent customer service skills are required. Includes routine food preparation and customer assistance throughout the Retail Store. Required to be trained and work in all areas of the Retail Store including the Meat Counter, the Deli Counter, Stocking, and Cashier.
The days of operation are Tuesday through Saturday. The shift times vary but are generally between the hours of 8am – 6pm, some overtime may be required. Adherence to all Food Safety, GMP’s, and Safety policies required.
Position reports to the Retail Manager and Retail Assistant Manager.
Pay Range: $18.00 - $23.81

Essential Functions:
Duties/Responsibilities:
Cashier:
  • Greets customers as they enter the location.
  • Accepts money in the form of cash, checks, and credit or debit cards for items purchased; validates checks.
  • Assists customers with questions or any discrepancies.
  • Ensures accurate transactions by balancing the cash register at the beginning and end of shift and using correct cash handling procedures.
  • Processes returns and exchanges according to store policy.
  • Identifies prices of products and services and tabulates bills with available equipment.
  • Assists customers in locating various products.
  • Front Face all merchandise on all shelves and displays.
  • Sweep, dust and wipe down counters and doors.
  • Must work on inventory Sundays as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Deli Counter:
  • Prepares and serves foods such as sandwiches, salads, meats, cheeses, and specialty/catering orders according to customer specifications.
  • Provides menu information and suggestions to customers including food suggestions and explanations of ingredients and preparation methods.
  • Assists with food preparation as directed.
  • Follows First-In-First-Out (FIFO) policies.
  • Operates food preparation equipment as directed following all safety procedures and wearing all required PPE’s.
  • Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes workstations.
  • Cleans and sanitizes dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other containers and returns to appropriate location in the deli area.
  • Refills condiments or other supplies.
  • Must work on inventory Sundays as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Meat Counter:
  • Operates meat processing equipment.
  • Uses hand tools and power equipment to cut meat to specifications.
  • Tenderizes, packages, weighs, labels, and prices meat products.
  • Arranges meat products in display counter to attract attention of customers.
  • Follows First-In-First-Out (FIFO) policies.
  • Prepares special-ordered cuts of meat for customers.
  • Evaluates quality control and ensures workspace is kept sanitary.
  • Ensures products comply with all U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA) guidelines.
  • Receives and stores meat when it is delivered and ensures its quality and freshness.
  • Oversees meat inventory and places orders to maintain inventory levels.
  • Notifies manager of any problems or issues that could affect the quality of meat products sold to customers.
  • Meets productivity, accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Must work on inventory Sundays as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Stocking:
  • Must demonstrate a consistent sense of urgency regarding food safety requirements and to ensure proper inventory is maintained.
  • Follows First-In-First-Out (FIFO) policies.
  • Must be forklift trained.
  • Responsible for receiving and properly storing incoming products from vendors.
  • Responsible for accurately completing all required receiving paperwork including verification of product received from packing slip.
  • Must be able to work in very cold environments.
  • Must be organized and be able to anticipate purchasing trends to properly stock the retail store for normal, seasonal and holiday needs.
  • Front Face all merchandise on all shelves and displays.
  • Must communicate with manager regarding inventory issues.
  • Must work on inventory Sundays as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate cooking and food preparation equipment.
  • Understanding of proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash registers, calculators, or scanners.
  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
  • Knowledgeable about company’s products and services, and customer-related policies.
  • Familiarity with USDA guidelines.
  • Ability to operate meat-cutting equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to fulfill customer orders efficiently and accurately.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the retail store.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times.
  • May be required work in excessive heat and cold in association with the kitchen environment.
  • May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work near raw meat and blood.
  • Must wear a Richwood Meat Company uniform shirt and blue jeans (with no rips or holes).
  • Must wear black non-slip shoes.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training.
  • Completion of Food Handlers Certification prior to first day.
  • Two weeks from the start date for Food handlers Certification for accommodation.
