Job Summary:
The Climber will climb the trees and remove the trees or prune them as requested. This position will work with the grapple saw truck operator.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Trim or removes tree by climbing or with the aid of an aerial lift device.
- Loads and unloads trucks with logs, brush and debris often weighting 25 lbs. or more, lifts and feeds brush into brush chipper.
- Works from the ground using hand saws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers and gas-powered chain saws.
- Drives truck or operates other equipment as assigned.
- Responsible for the inspection and proper working condition of all tools and equipment assigned to him or her.
- Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around the work area.
- Helps enforce on-the-job safety practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, class B preferred but not required.
- Experience working as a tree climber required.
- Must pass company-driving test.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification.
- Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of all knots, ropes and rigging devices used in tree trimming and removal operations.
- Must be able to work and maneuver at considerable heights under varying weather conditions.
- Must possess physical strength and agility, good balance, good depth perception and the ability to hear verbal instructions from a distance.
- Must be able to climb and descent trees using rope and safety saddle; to learn, administer and implement emergency rescue, techniques, including tree rescue and all applicable first aid techniques.
- Must be able to quickly remove him/herself from a potential danger area.
- Must be able to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to hear verbal instructions from a distance.
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to work in a variety of roles.
Education and Experience:
- Previous experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Job training for this position is provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds at times.
- Bending/Squatting/Twisting: Required constantly when shoveling/raking different material.
- Pushing/pulling: Required constantly when raking, shoveling, or removing debris from job site.
- Lifting/carrying: Is required constantly when shoveling/raking materials, using a chain saw, picking up debris, and removing limbs or branches from a tree.
- Climbing: Required constantly when climbing up to heights of 75 feet while cutting down or maintaining trees.
- Overhead activity: Performed constantly when helping to cut down trees.
- Driving: Can be performed constantly depending on the job for the day. Includes driving a truck or bobcat.
- Tools handled: Shovel, rake, and chain saw
- Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the tree care industry.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
