Job Title: Manager of Bus Operations Department: Operations General Summary Under general supervision, the Manager of Bus Operations provides assistance to the Assistant Vice President of Bus Operations with regard to the planning, administration, safety and management of overall transportation and fleet maintenance activities for the terminal. Manages terminal activities in the absence of the Assistant Vice President of Bus Operations. Investigates and responds to passenger complaints and process accidents for preventability/non-preventability. Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists the Assistant Vice President of Bus Operations in all aspects of directing and supervising the terminal's daily transit management, including the issuance of discipline, investigation of accidents, scheduling of staff, training for new personnel, and supervising the yard dispatchers.
- Investigate and respond to passenger complaints in a timely manner, including responsibility for viewing and archiving video surveillance. Responsible for the effective resolution of customer complaints, including investigation, follow-up, and record-keeping.
- Investigate and determine the preventability of accidents.
- Responsible for recording late pull-outs and run cuts.
- May represent the Authority at first and second-step grievance meetings for represented employees.
- Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding operational needs or problems; may implement corrective actions.
- Establishes and maintains open and effective lines of communication with Authority peers, superiors, subordinates, and customers regarding the status and progress of departmental activities and services.
- Counsels’ division employees as needed.
- Assists in special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field or five years of progressively responsible experience in transportation and/or maintenance management.
- Four years of supervisory/management experience in transportation.
- Knowledge of how to interpret Collective Bargaining Agreement language.
- Knowledge of how to investigate an accident for preventability/non-preventability.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements within thirty (30) days of appointment.
- Proficient in the use of Windows-based MS Word and MS Excel applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
