Our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a Surgical Materials Manager to join our team! This unique role combines materials management expertise with hands-on surgical support, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Position Summary
The Surgical Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment. Additionally, this role serves as a back-up Surgical Scrub Technician on an as-needed basis, supporting our clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Management
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory levels for surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. Conduct regular audits to avoid overstock or shortages.
- Purchasing: Source and order surgical materials, negotiating with vendors to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
- Compliance: Ensure all supplies and equipment meet regulatory and accreditation standards, including OSHA, FDA, and Joint Commission requirements.
- Vendor Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure favorable terms and reliable delivery schedules.
- Budgeting: Collaborate with the administrative team to manage the materials budget, monitor expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate maintenance and repairs of surgical instruments and equipment as needed.
Surgical Support
- Serve as a back-up Surgical Scrub Technician on an as-needed basis to assist in surgical procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and proper instrument handling.
- Prepare operating rooms with necessary supplies and instruments, ensuring availability and readiness for procedures.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to facilitate smooth operations during cases.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in materials management, preferably in a surgical or healthcare setting.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, surgical instruments, and supplies.
- Strong understanding of inventory management systems and supply chain logistics.
- Excellent negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with materials management software.
