What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exercise Physiologist position at Ridgeview Medical Center Health System?
Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for evaluating and assessing patient condition, and developing treatment plans in conjunction with patient, family, and medical team. This role also evaluates the patient response to exercise and provides necessary education.
Job Functions
- Evaluate, plan, and administer patient treatment upon referral of physician using all the techniques and modalities of Exercise Physiologist
- Provide risk factor identification and lifestyle management education and service to individuals with or at risk for cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic disease
- Assess vital sign
- ECG rhythm and arrhythmia recognition
- Provide exercise-related consulting for research, public health, and other clinical and non-clinical service programs
- Provide exercise testing administration and patient monitoring of physiological response, prepare preliminary test interpretation with documentation in the electronic health record of services rendered
- Communicates with other health care providers as necessary, recognizing critical results and communicating urgently
- Checks equipment prior to patient testing, ensuring proper orientation
- Administer cardiac life support during medical emergencies
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology
- ECG interpretation
- Certification, experience, or training equivalent to that specified for an ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Exercise Specialist
- ACLS within 6-months of hire
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
- Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
- BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cardiac Rehab or Exercise Stress Testing
- 2 years of cardiovascular healthcare experience
- Master's degree in Exercise Physiology
