Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for implementing Respiratory Care treatments, procedures and diagnostic testing according to physician’s order and department policy/procedure.
Job Functions
- Provides and monitors the therapeutic administration of medical oxygen, aerosols, humidification and respiratory medications.
- Applies and monitors non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilatory support.
- Assists with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintenance of natural airways, and insertion and maintenance of artificial airways.
- Obtains physiological specimens and interprets physiological data.
- Suggests alternative therapies, alterations in therapy and changes in frequency of therapy to the physician when appropriate.
- Instructs patients and their families in techniques for the prevention, alleviation and rehabilitation of diseases associated with the respiratory system.
- Anticipates the patient’s respiratory needs post discharge and facilitates the transition to home or alternate care site.
- Documents patient data in accordance with policy and procedure requirements and processes billing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
When performing in Chaska, performs the following Pharmacy functions :
- Monthly outdate checks; returns to Pharmacy.
- Receives stock; fills AcuDose daily and InstyMeds machine as necessary.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care program
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to be sensitive to patient’s physical and psychological needs
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of RT equipment
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
