What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Infusion position at Ridgeview Medical Center?
Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the administration of IV infusions, including chemo, hydration and other complex IV therapies for diagnosis. In addition, may perform telephone assessment of patient condition and determine appropriate treatment for patient under the supervision of the provider.
Job Functions
- Administers parenteral fluids, blood and blood components, pharmacological agents, nutritional solutions and pain medications.
- Assesses patient health problems needs and develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans accordingly.
- Advises and educates patients, family members and significant others on health maintenance and disease prevention for the patient.
- Documents and maintains accurate medical records and reports
- .Participates in quality improvement activities as appropriate to position.
- Serves as a patient advocate in seeking appropriate community resources to meet patient needs.
- Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other healthcare providers, and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice.
- Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Infusion.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- 1-3 years of Oncology experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proficient in chemotherapy infusion
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
- Skills in assessment of patient condition and taking vital signs
- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
Licensure/Certifications
- Oncology Certification
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (must obtain certification before chemotherapy can be administered)
- Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
- Current CPR certification or must be obtained as soon as possible after hire
