Job Functions
- Processes admissions, transfers, discharges in the electronic medical record per system and hospital requirements. and schedules appointments.
- Completes assigned clerical responsibilities, including restocking/ordering of supplies for unit.
- Coordinates the care and movement of the patient between other departments or locations; and communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to the appropriate staff.
- Under the direction of an RN, assists the nursing staff with direct and non-direct patient care functions.
- Obtains and articulates pertinent data in an objective manner.
- Documents the various aspects of care according to the established policies and procedures on appropriate forms and records.
- Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of the Orthopedic Institute Inpatient unit.
- Assists with cleaning of designated items and equipment.
- Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
- Recommends opportunities for and participates in quality improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Knowledge of basic computer functions
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situation and diverse patient populations
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
- High school graduate or equivalent
- BLS Certification or obtained with 90-days of hire
- Previous Nursing Assistant and/or HUC experience
- Possession of a Nursing Assistant Certificate
- Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience in a hospital setting
