Position: High School Music Teacher - Choir
Position Summary: Ridgewood Public Schools seeks a Music Teacher at Ridgewood High School for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with high school students and deeply knowledgeable in vocal pedagogy and conducting. They should be equipped to teach a wide range of choral literature—including traditional repertoire for SATB, SSAA, and TTBB ensembles, as well as contemporary a cappella—and possess strong piano skills to support both ensemble work and classroom instruction. The successful candidate will cultivate a vibrant, inclusive, and high-achieving choral environment where students grow as both musicians and individuals. Grounded in a mindset that values empathy, resilience, communication, and leadership, the choral director will support the holistic development of each student through reflective practice, inclusive instruction, and creative collaboration. This approach will inform purposeful rehearsal strategies, strong vocal instruction, and thoughtful performance preparation—fostering confident, expressive, and skilled singers. The Ridgewood High School Choral Program is dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential as a vocalist and well-rounded musician through the study and performance of high-quality, diverse musical repertoire. The program fosters artistry, musical literacy, collaboration, and personal growth through meaningful and inclusive musical experiences.
Qualifications
Working Conditions: 10 month, full-time, tenure track position, salary as per negotiated contract with benefits

Qualifications
- Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with the appropriate Music endorsement
- Demonstrated expertise in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and piano accompanying
- Ability to plan engaging and effective instruction using a variety of methods and materials
- Committed to creating a positive classroom culture that supports individual growth, student motivation, and a love of music
- Skilled in assessing student progress and using data to inform instruction
- Experience with contemporary a cappella ensembles preferred
- Energetic, student-focused, and collaborative educator with a passion for music education
- Teaching and conducting four curricular ensembles, including auditioned groups (Chamber Choir, Treble Choir, and Concert Choir) and an entry-level, non-auditioned ensemble (Chorale), with a focus on vocal development, music literacy, ensemble skills, and personal expression
- Leading the Contemporary A Cappella Program, including directing ensembles and/or collaborating with adjunct directors; fostering student creativity, independence, and stylistic awareness through contemporary repertoire and competition performances
- Directing the Ridgewood Carolers, coordinating meaningful seasonal performances that strengthen school and community connections
- Serving as Musical Director for the New Players Theater Company, leading music rehearsals and teaching ensemble and solo vocals in close collaboration with the stage director and pit orchestra director
- Collaborating with the Choir Parents Organization and student-led Choir Council to plan community events, enrichment opportunities, and fundraising efforts that support program resources, events, and senior scholarships
- Encouraging and preparing students to participate in honors ensembles (Region, All-State, and All-Eastern), while supporting each student's individual goals and growth as developing musicians and citizens
