The Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC), based at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, provides English language training for U.S. and international military personnel. Operating under the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), DLIELC enhances interoperability and cooperation between allied forces and the U.S. military. It offers basic and specialized English courses to support technical training, aviation, and military operations, playing a key role in global defense partnerships.

Department: The Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC)
Monday - Friday, 0730-1630, with flexibility for special projects
Aerospace Medicine Physician (Flight Surgeon) at the Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC) under the Flight Medicine and Physical Standards Branch (SGPF). Responsibilities include medical certification, waiver processing, risk analysis, and operational policy recommendations within the Air Education Training Command (AETC).
The aerospace medicine physician shall primarily perform the duties as MAJCOM SGPA to include consultation and expert recommendations on the management, administration, and oversight of aeromedical programs for Air Education Training Command’s DLIELC

Responsibilities:
- Medical evaluations and waivers for military personnel
- Consultation on aerospace medicine programs for Air Education Training Command (AETC)
- Policy recommendations for Force Development Exception to Policy (FDETP) board proceedings
- Review and approval of flying physical waivers and compliance with aeromedical standards
- Consultation on public health and occupational medicine programs
Additional Responsibilities:
- Aeromedical evaluations for flight/special duty personnel
- Assess adaptability for military special duty applicants
- Apply medical, fitness, and profiling standards as per Air Force regulations
Qualifications & Skills:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited school
- Board Certification in Aerospace Medicine (preferred) or related fields with experience
- Experience in military aeromedical program management, flight operations, and special duty medical evaluations
- Proficiency in military health databases and regulatory compliance
Certifications:
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and maintain validity throughout the contract. Must be a certified senior or chief flight surgeon from USAF, USA, USN, or USMC; FAA or civilian flight medicine training is not accepted
- Licensure: Must hold a valid, unrestricted U.S. medical license with no adverse actions in the past 10 years.
English Proficiency: Must be fluent in reading, speaking, understanding, and writing English for effective communication
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years as a credentialed Aerospace Medicine Specialist or Flight Surgeon.
- Must have conducted special operational evaluations and held clinical privileges in flight, aerospace, or occupational medicine within the past 3 years
- Must meet clinical competency requirements for Aerospace Medicine
- Internship/Residency: Aerospace Medicine residency is preferred; Family, Occupational, or Preventive Medicine may be considered if experience meets requirements
