What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Biller/Coder position at Riemer Eye Center?
Riemer Eye Center is looking for an experienced Biller to work in our Ludington and/or Manistee office. The Biller reviews, assesses and processes claims; pursues collection of all claims; performs other work associated with the billing process; and provides billing assistance to patients and administrative staff. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience in medical billing with EHR system/s.
ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Medical and surgery change entry in the practice management system.
- Submit EDI and paper claims daily.
- Produces authorizations for surgery, injectable drugs, Veterans Administration and Hi-Tech Imaging
- Responsible for End of Day balancing as assigned.
- Responsible for all Records Release requests.
- Secures needed medical documentation required or requested by insurances.
- Assures that correct diagnosis/procedures are reported to insurance companies.
- Monitors claims for missing information and follows through to assure information is complete and accurate.
- Follows up on all insurance claims and handles the collections on unpaid accounts.
- Keeps updated on all billing requirements and benefit changes for insurance types and companies.
- Completes work within authorized time to assure compliance with departmental standards.
- Answers billing calls and questions.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
- Assists other teams as requested
- Other duties as may be assigned

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
- Successful completion of high school diploma or GED Equivalent.
- ICD-9 Certificate preferred.
- Post high school courses in insurance billing, data processing and medical terminology.
- One year of prior experience in billing of insurances for facility and professional services.
- Knowledge of billing requirements.
