Summary

To inspect for and develop specific solutions and/or courses of action to correct non-conformance, accept, and/or reject materials and work performed (as needed) primarily in paving projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes and/or specifications.

Summary

To inspect for and develop specific solutions and/or courses of action to correct non-conformance, accept, and/or reject materials and work performed (as needed) primarily in paving projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes and/or specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Directs, supervises, evaluates, and trains level 1, 2, and 3 QC laboratory and/or field technicians at plants and on project sites.
- Performs inspections (may include NDE) and witness tests as required of aggregates and final product.
- Directs and supervises sampling and performance of tests, calculations, and inspections of aggregate, asphalt mixtures, concrete mixes, and in-place materials. Performs mixture testing for assigned Area as needed.
- Prepares test reports, maintains accurate statistical records and quality control documents in accordance with Certified Material Producers Program requirements.
- Evaluates test results for compliance with specifications.
- Acts within positional authority, makes discretionary adjustments to mix designs or aggregate production blends to ensure compliance with the specifications based on evaluations of test results on material components and final product properties.
- Prepares all mix designs as directed by Area Management based on plant needs and project schedules. Prepares and submits mix design paperwork to DOT or other agencies.
- Assists the Area QC Manager with internal audits/inspections of laboratories to ensure compliance with DOT specifications.
- Represents the Company at DOT laboratory audits and makes any/all required corrections.
- Coordinates equipment/device calibration and adjusts measuring/test equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Assists the Area QC Manager and plant personnel with calibration and adjustment of the production plant.
- Prepares and submits material price adjustment (penalty/bonus) documentation and appeals.
- Collaborates with Area QC Manager to prepare quality control procedures (QA/QC Plans) and review other QA/QC procedures for compliance with quality control requirements.
- Obtains stockpile measurements and provides data periodically for materials inventory control.
- Ensures satisfactory operation, maintenance, and control of work area, equipment, and supplies, in compliance with appropriate safety regulations and policies.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in discipline including familiarity with QC standards, procedures, and applicable codes is essential.
- Asphalt materials testing experience is required.
- Ability to analyze complex situations regarding mix design and non-conformance; develop alternative solutions and implement appropriate action required.
- Certification for the materials primarily tested preferred.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Must have good organizational skills.
- Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential.
- Problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Self-motivated; ability to work independently.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
