Description
The CNC Machinist/Programmer is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines to manufacture precision components. This role requires proficiency in CNC programming, blueprint reading, and working with tight tolerances to produce high-quality parts efficiently.
What You’ll Do:
- Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes, mills, and other machining equipment to produce precision parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Write, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G-code, M-code, and CAM software.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on material and machining requirements.
- Set up and adjust workpieces, tooling, and fixtures to ensure accurate production.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to maintain tight tolerances.
- Optimize machining processes by recommending adjustments to tooling, feeds, and speeds for efficiency and quality improvements.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of CNC machines and tooling.
- Track jobs and maintain records in the Vantage system or other shop tracking tools.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, safety procedures, and company quality policies.
Requirements
What You’ll Need:
- High school diploma or GED required; 3-5 years of CNC machining and programming experience preferred.
- Proficiency in CNC programming (G-code, M-code), setup, and operation of CNC mills and lathes.
- Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measuring tools.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship, with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow and interpret technical instructions in various formats (verbal, written, CAD/CAM models).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machine programs and tooling issues.
- Effective and professional communication skills with team members and customers.
- Experience with machine maintenance, tooling selection, and process improvements is a plus.
