Overview
Right Rope’s Rope Splicing Craftsman will help customers get the right rope for their next project by custom-finishing the ends of rope for specific orders. No prior rope-finishing experience required, on-the-job training and certification provided.
Common examples of rope-finishing include: splicing an eye-loop into the end of a rope for a dock line, porch swing, or arborist bull rope; heat-shrinking soft-grip handles on exercising battle ropes; and creating an endless loop for snow-ski towing ropes.

Right Rope is a growing, e-commerce rope distributor near Grand Rapids, Michigan. We custom-cut, finish, coil, and ship all our rope orders from our warehouse. Our mission is to get customers the right rope at the right price, and ship the same business day. We sell a variety of high-quality ropes such as: boating ropes, arborist ropes, fitness ropes, craft and decorative ropes, utility ropes and everything in between. The Rope Splicing Craftsman position is dedicated to providing high-quality rope-finishing options for our customers in all these industries.
About You
You self-describe as a person who likes to work with their hands and make things. You enjoy helping others and may have side hobbies (or prior experience) in woodworking, building, carpentry, or other trades that require physical/spatial reasoning, precision, and working with your hands. Perhaps you even enjoy the science of knotting and working with ropes, or outdoor survival techniques.

Primary Responsibilities
- Learn and become proficient in all splicing techniques. Training and certification provided.
- Splicing rope for customer orders using hand tools
- Splicing 3-strand, 8-strand, 12-strand, double braid and other rope types
- Installing hardware on ropes such as thimbles, handles, hooks, whipping, etc.
- Fabricating lifting slings, climbing lines, lanyards, etc.
- Tying decorative knots, custom knot work, and other rope finishing techniques
- Making finished rope products such as: anchor lines, dock lines, mooring lines, battle ropes, tug-of-war ropes, gymnasium climbing ropes, flow ropes, water skiing tow ropes, electrical cable pulling ropes, tree climbing ropes, snow ski hill tow ropes, off-road recovery ropes, winch lines, dog leashes, horse leads, zoological ropes, safety lines, fall protection ropes, and more.
- Rope testing and quality control using our break test machine
- Speaking with customers on the phone and communicating with them through email regarding their splicing and rope finishing requests and questions.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Work with a core team of warehouse order fulfillment members to cut, coil, and ship daily rope orders
- Create, assemble, and package finished rope products for customer orders
- Some shipping and receiving, some forklift use
- Keep warehouse and workspace clean and orderly to maximize safety and efficiency
- Possibly work with our marketing team to make video content about splicing and knotting ropes
Skills & Qualifications
- At least 18 years old and earned (or soon earning) high school diploma / equivalent
- Pass a background check and be drug-free
- Possess high-degree of physical coordination and precision in work
- Strong hands and arms and able to work with them all day
- Understanding and/or the desire to learn the mechanics of splicing, how and why they work
- Ability to splice many types of rope, or willingness to learn. Training and certification provided.
- Able to safely lift 75 pounds and work while on your feet all day, and use arms and shoulders to coil rope
- Must have excellent attention to detail and safety. Rope splicing must be done correctly.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills and productivity in a challenging environment
- Ability to operate a forklift safely or willing to learn, training provided.
- Ability to measure, use cutting tools, and use machines to perform job requirements
- Demonstrated track-record of high integrity and work-ethic

Schedule
Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday 7:30 - 4:30 p.m.
- Tu - Th 7:30 - 4 p.m.
- Friday 7:30 - 3:30 p.m.
