What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineering Intern position at RightOn Education?
Work with a small, fast-moving team with experience at companies including Airbnb, Amazon, Google, and LinkedIn. Gain experience with an edtech / social impact startup focused on unlocking potential in all youth. Develop in ReactJS Typescript (PWA) on the frontend and AWS/DynamoDB on the backend.
In this role, you’ll be able to work closely with the design and development teams, authoring features from initial design through implementation and QA that is required to get them into production. Past interns have developed features in both our PWA and mobile apps, coordinating across sub-teams, pushing updates to the backend, and getting new features into production in the classroom.
Example Projects:
Real-Time Data Visualization Component:
One of our past interns was placed in charge of developing a React component that tracked live student responses and charted them using a third-party library based on D3.js. The intern performed research on library selection, coordinated with the design team for their needs, and then implemented the feature from initial prototypes through to production in React.
Confidence Meter Component:
Another past intern took point on this feature, which included updating our DynamoDB tables, adjusting the GraphQL APIs via AWS Amplify, and creating the component on the frontend in React. They also led all the coordination with the design team, setting up meetings to iron out details and manage feedback on an ongoing basis.
Skills and Interests:
We are building apps on Amazon Web Services using React, Node.js, DynamoDB, and AppSync/GraphQL. We’re looking for the following in a candidate:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience with Javascript
- Minimum 1 year of experience with React
- Familiarity with APIs, GraphQL, and/or DynamoDB is a plus
- Experience with methodological QA processes
- Willingness to dive in and learn more!
Dates and Hours:
This role will run from October, 2024 to March, 2025 with a commitment of 20 hrs/week.
