Job Description
Under this initiative, the combination of technologies, applications, and services continues to be refined periodically through a continuous improvement process achieved by the partnership with various DSS divisions, outside service organizations, and contractors. This partnership is intended to ensure full alignment of a state-of-the-art information technology strategy with the business goals of DSS and results in the information technology that fully supports and empowers staff, clients, and partners to maximize service delivery. It also involves implementing information technology policies and standards as well as executing all data security requirements, information technology planning and acquisition activities, and technology training within the Agency.
Tasks & Duties
Implement conceptual design to physical database implementation, enhance and refine the logical design of the database.
Monitor and manage SQL Servers and databases on a day-to-day basis; develop database designs, stored procedures, triggers, and constraints for new applications in MS SQL Server based on client standards.
Provide day-to-day advice to users on data structures and terminology and develop policies and procedures related to the support and maintenance of database applications.
Monitor databases for optimal performance and act to mitigate blocking and performance tuning issues.
Provide guidance to Application Development staff for query, stored procedures, functions, and database design.
Baseline system performance and monitor for deviations, recommending and implementing improvements to slow-running queries.
Document database architecture, configuration settings, baseline performance metrics, and planned and unplanned outages.
Establish and implement best practices regarding data definition, data quality, data security, and data integration.
Perform database administration duties, including installation, patching, backup and recovery management, space management, schema management, startup, and shutdown.
Required Skills
4 Years of technical expertise in writing optimal T-SQL queries, stored procedures, user-defined functions, and views. In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience developing, deploying, and maintaining complex SSIS packages.
4 Years of thorough understanding of database maintenance practices, including index management, backup strategies, and disk space requirements. Knowledge of Microsoft systems, i.e., Windows 2012, 2019, IIS, SQL Server 2012 and 2014, Access, MS. Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
4 Years of experience working in an Azure environment, including migrating SQL databases from on-premises to Azure Cloud, creating Azure Data Factories, and implementing and configuring Azure Synapse. Implemented pipeline creation from Azure Synapse to Data Verse. Pipeline created between Azure Synapse to SQL database using Data Factories.
4 Years of experience in all environments (Production, Test, and Dev). Work experience with cluster environments, failover, and failback activities during patching. Experience in Availability Group creation, failover, and failback activities.
4 Years of experience handling Tempdb/Version Store in different situations. Worked on replication, Database Mirroring, and high availability solutions.
4 Years of experience in installing, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting MS SQL Server 2008R2/2012/2014/2016/2019. SQL Server Security and Object Permissions Management, including maintaining database authentication modes, user creation, configuring permissions, and assigning roles to users.
4 Years of experience moving system & user-defined databases data and log files. Experience in moving backups from one environment to another (Database refresh). Creating maintenance plans to perform index de-fragmentation, re-indexing, and updating index statistics.
