Job Summary
The RCHS seeks a dynamic Society Administrator who possesses a diverse skill set to lead the organization in implementing its new strategic plan and beyond. The Society Administrator will work closely with the Board of Directors in all aspects of operations and fulfillment of the Society's mission, as well as manage a staff of full- and part-time employees and volunteers. This Society employee will work with the Board of Directors to develop policy and annual operating budgets, to raise funds and manage finances, and to expand community outreach through marketing, communications, and public relations. This administrator will oversee daily operations and preservation projects associated with Society properties. This administrator will collaborate with the county museum’s professional staff in support of educational, interpretive, and collections programs.
Position Responsibilities
Leadership and Board Relations
- In collaboration with the Board, formulate policies and engage in activities of Board committees and engage with community partners.
- In collaboration with the Board, update, maintain, and execute the 2025 Seven-Year Strategic Plan in partnership with the Board, Society staff, and county museum staff.
- Ensure professional development of full- and part-time staff and volunteers who assist in the operation and preservation of the historic properties. Development, Fundraising, and Fiscal Management
- Collaborate with the Board to develop, manage, and monitor the Society’s $300,000 annual operating budget and capital and restricted funds, ensuring financial sustainability and effective resource allocation for preservation, programs, buildings and grounds maintenance and operations, and grant making.
- Forecast and anticipate future site and organization needs and develop long-range plans with Society staff, Board, and county museum staff.
- Be an active part of the annual membership campaign, operations fundraising, and any future capital campaigns. Oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with reporting obligations, and partner with the museum director to secure and distribute grant funding. Cultivate new donor and sponsor relationships and maintain and expand existing relationships. Support the Board’s annual signature and donor appreciation event(s).
- Regularly communicate with the RCHS Treasurer and Executive Board, financial advisor(s), and Bookkeeper concerning the annual operating budget, the special projects budget, RCHS finance committee activity, investments, grants, etc.
Operations and Personnel Oversight
- Manage staff and volunteers who support Society operations and properties, ensuring efficient processes.
- Be responsible for all Society personnel matters including employment and labor law compliance, hiring, training, supervision and evaluations, professional development, disciplinary actions and terminations, with the support of the Executive Board.
- Oversee the Society’s Historic Sites Manager and ensure all preservation and maintenance needs are being met.
Marketing
- Serve as the spokesperson for the Society on day-to-day matters. Work with the communications committee to maintain and update the Society’s social media presence, direct the design and delivery of e-blasts, assure production of Society newsletters (6x/year), update website content, help develop marketing campaigns, brochures and leaflets for programming. Manage the production of outreach displays, various marketing materials, and advertisements. Collaborate with museum staff to ensure their activities, programs, and announcements are communicated.
Outreach and Public Relations
- Serve as the Board’s liaison to the public and community as needed.
- Ensure the integrity, reputation, and trust of the organization.
- Oversee development of creative and enriching strategies to engage and expand audiences, stakeholders, and financial support.
Requirements
- Present excellent interpersonal, public relations, and written and oral communication skills. Exhibit a professional level of appropriate discretion and transparency.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, organizational management, and cultural resource management or related field with relevant, practical experience in the fields of history, historic preservation, historic site management, or nonprofit management.
- Have a minimum of 5 – 7 years of relevant work experience demonstrating successful accomplishment of some or all of the following skills: development, capital campaign management, cultural resource management and administration, staff leadership, budget development and management, public outreach and marketing, historic preservation, and project management.
