Packaging Designer
Reports to: Business Development Manager
Status: Exempt
Summary:
The Packaging Designer designs and details returnable and expendable packaging for customers by creating drawings from customer math data, existing customer parts, sketches, models or existing equipment.
Essential Functions:
· Design, layout, and detail of returnable and expendable packaging using SolidWorks, Unigraphics (UG) and CATIA V5 CAD packages.
· Create CAD models from existing sketches or equipment.
· Download customer supplied data and information.
· Conduct density studies to determine whether or not the number of parts involved is feasible.
· Review product design for quality, customer requirements, and specifications.
· Make customer driven changes to previously released racks.
· Evaluate and approve design changes.
· Attend customer meetings as necessary.
· Coordinate activities concerned with development, scheduling, and resolving design and test problems.
· Communicate daily with customers to ensure that racks are made to their specifications.
· Support the sales department by creating packaging concepts for proposals.
Education/Experience:
· Bachelors Degree preferred, however related experience may be substituted for education.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· 2 years working as a rack designer and/or experience working with SolidWorks, UG and CATIA V5.
· Ability to accurately create models and drawings from physical objects.
· PC proficiency in CAD software and MS Office.
· Strong technical background including engineering, material handling, physics, and drafting/CAD.
· Successful completion of internal design proficiency examination.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
· Routine for office environment.
· Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, occasionally bend and move about the facility.
· Occasional exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
· Safety glasses and ear plugs may be required while performing specific tasks.
