As a Marketing Specialist, resolves the legal issues that all departments across the company confront, by means of legal strategies that include negotiations and preparation of industry contracts.
General Responsibilities
- Negotiate, draft and see to completion agreements that include the following: Guest Artist, Producer, Concert Promotor, Live Event Performance, Sponsorship, Vendor, Name & Likeness, Non-Disclosure, Master Use License or Purchase, Composition License or Purchase, Exclusivity Waiver, Video Production, Distribution, Exclusive Recording, Publishing, and 360.
- Constant communication and teamwork across all company departments. Maintain a collaborative and supportive working environment with the legal department.
- Support outside counsel on litigation matters, including with discovery requests.
- Address and resolve infringement issues (e.g. takedowns).
- Engage musicologists and other experts who can identify the use of samples or interpolations, and work to clear usage rights.
- Assist in the identification and registration of Rimas’ intellectual property assets (i.e., copyrights and trademarks).
- Collaborate with outside counsel with specialized subject-matter expertise or licensed to practice in foreign jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with outside vendors (e.g., translation services).
- Clear the use of still images, videos, artwork, and other materials from the unauthorized use of assets that belong to third parties.
- Remain vigilant of and eliminate or minimize the company’s liability exposure, including for injury to business, property, or person (e.g., safeguards regarding the participation of children in activities sponsored by the Rimas foundation).
- Work effectively with creatives and business-minded executives.
- Clear, grant or supervise exclusivity waivers for collaborations with third parties.
- Confer with accountants on issues that include royalties, cost deductions, payments, and billing.
- Manage grant of rights to third parties including for the participation of Rimas’ talent in interviews, TV appearances, award shows, and live performances.
- Power marketing initiatives by ensuring legal compliance without undermining project creativity.
- Prioritize and manage large and diverse workloads in a fast-paced industry.
- Maintain awareness of the business impact of legal strategies and provide counsel regarding avoidance of financial loss as well as potential revenue-generating opportunities.
- Stay abreast of industry developments (e.g., NFTs) and advise the company on such matters.
- Train company staff on legal issues and how they impact staff, the company, and our talent.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school.
- Active license, in good standing, to practice law in at least one state in the contiguous United States or Puerto Rico.
- Specialized knowledge in the following areas of the law: entertainment, intellectual property, contracts, privacy, promotions, corporate, employment, immigration and tax.
- Experience in the industry and legal practice of entertainment.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish. Exceptionally good writing ability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in computer software and with digital tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Asana, Slack, and social platforms)
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $45,873.65 - $80,000.00 per year
