Game Art Department Head
Full-Time Faculty Appointment with Benefits
Job Summary / Basic Function
Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking an experienced faculty member to provide leadership for the Game Art major.
The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of the game industry and can communicate a vision for how a Game Art major at a leading art and design school will contribute meaningfully to its future. Prospective candidates should have experience in game development and in higher education. Ideally, they have some college level teaching experience, have created a game title that has shipped, and maintain a passionate vision for excellence in both professional and educational contexts. The Department Head position requires all candidates to regularly assess, revise, and implement the Game Art curriculum in consultation with the area faculty. The Department Head is responsible for managing the area's growth, and will aim to more fully integrate the Game Art program into the dynamic Ringling College Community.
Among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position : Teach and provide leadership in the ongoing development of the Game Art program, including areas of budget management, pedagogy, admission standards, enrollment strategies, and faculty recruitment. This is a full time, renewable 10-month appointment with faculty status and a reduced teaching load during the academic year.
Game Art Program
Game Art has a long history at Ringling College, and as its own program accredited by NASAD, it has been partnered with Computer Animation, then with Virtual Reality Development (VRD). With VRD appointing its first Morganroth Endowed Department Head as of Fall, 2022, Game Art is now both its own program and department. Recognized as one of the top three gaming schools in the world, Ringling College's Game Art major equips students with the skill sets needed for a durable and diverse career in the gaming industry. Students perfect their artistic techniques, study the mechanics of game design and interactivity, and build their own worlds. They engage leading software used by professionals while learning textures, lighting, player options, and user experience. The college believes in hyper marketability, preparing students with top-rate portfolios and understanding the values that game studios are looking for in the most elite of candidates.
Duties and Responsibilities of Department Heads and Program Directors
Department Heads and Program Directors have important, complex, and constantly changing roles within the Ringling College. The roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :
- Leadership within the department and Ringling College.
- Effective and efficient administration of their department or program.
- Initiative in curriculum and / or program development and planning.
- Performance evaluation of all full-time and part-time faculty in the department.
- Guidance to faculty with respect to their teaching performance as well as their professional development.
- Facilitation of the physical and material needs of the department.
- Budget forecasting and management of the Game Art operating and capital resources
