What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Rio Grande Urology?
Rio Grande Urology is currently looking for a Medical Assistant to join our fast paced clinical team.
In this physician owned practice you will perform various clinical duties such as greeting, scheduling, assisting physicians with patient care, and handling clerical and organizational tasks. Candidate should be detailed-oriented, teamwork driven, have a genuine desire to assist patients, and have EMR experience.
Duties:
- Updates patient medical records and charts
- Answers phones and schedules medical appointments and procedures in accordance with established protocols.
- Processes insurance information for the practice’s billing in a timely manner
- Verifies and authorizes provider appointments as necessary.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service.
- Prepares patients for health care visit and enters assessment data into EMR correctly.
- Places patient in exam room for provider evaluation.
- Obtains medical and social history.
- Verifies patient information and identification.
- Accurately completes all forms.
- Supports provider with patient care delivery.
- Assists providers during examination and treatment.
- Takes vital signs and performs all ancillary tests appropriate to skill level, certifications and state regulations.
- Performs testing and tasks as ordered by the physician (urinalysis, catheter insertion, injections, bladder scans, cystoscopy, blood draws and other tasks as certified.
- Uses aseptic techniques when preparing surgical set ups and providing wound care as directed by the treating provider.
- Provides drug samples as ordered by the treating provider and in accordance with state regulations.
- Calls in prescriptions as ordered by the physician.
- Applies bandages, dressings and assists with post-operative care and suture removal as ordered by the treating provider.
- Educates patients as instructed by the physician.
- Completes records according to company policy.
- Maintains supplies, cleans rooms and equipment, and stocks rooms as needed.
Qualifications :
- Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited vocational institution or community college.
- Medical Assistant Certification required.
- Minimum of one year recent experience working in a medical facility and as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
