Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Data Modeler to join our team. This role involves providing technical expertise in the production of detailed database designs and design documentation, including creating data models and data flow diagrams to support system development and optimization for a program office within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Data Modeler will evaluate and configure database products to align user requirements with system capabilities, determine file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for system databases, and plan and coordinate the conversion and migration of existing (or legacy) databases.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database design and development, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in data modeling tools, familiarity with database management systems, and a deep understanding of data architecture best practices are essential for success in this role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dashboard Development: Develop, maintain, enhance, and support dashboards and automated reports to organize, analyze, and visualize VA data.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance and draft training materials and user guides to support dashboard and report usage.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize Microsoft Excel and Power BI to analyze and present data effectively.
  • Data Integration: Assist in integrating and managing data from VA datasets, databases, and data systems.
  • Database Design: Provide technical expertise to create detailed database designs and documentation, including data models and data flow diagrams.
  • Database Evaluation: Evaluate and configure database products to align user requirements with system capabilities and project objectives.
  • Performance Optimization: Determine file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for system databases to ensure optimal performance and data integrity.
  • Database Migration: Plan and coordinate the conversion and migration of existing (or legacy) databases to modern systems or platforms.
  • Model Enhancement: Maintain and enhance existing data models and database systems to improve functionality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Perform troubleshooting and optimization of database structures to resolve issues and improve performance.
  • Requirement Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, ensuring data solutions meet business and technical needs.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure database designs comply with industry standards, best practices, and organizational policies.
  • SharePoint Management: Support SharePoint library and list management for data storage and accessibility.
  • Documentation & Training: Provide documentation and training to technical teams to support the implementation and maintenance of database solutions.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement in data reporting and analysis.
  • Trend Monitoring: Stay updated on emerging trends, tools, and technologies in data modeling and database management.

 

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • Minimum 4 of experience in related fields.
  • Previous direct experience working with a federal government client.

 

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Strong preference for candidates with previous experience within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Strong data analysis and quantitative skills
  • Experience working with complex information systems and databases and ability to utilize Pyramid analytics and/or Tableau preferred

Benefits Information:

Profit-sharing/Performance Bonus: Rios Partners is committed to ensuring the success of the organization benefits the entire team. As such, a portion of profits is paid out to employees. The total amount of Profit-Sharing/Performance Bonus distributed to the team may vary year to year and will depend on numerous factors, including market conditions, company performance, and individual performance.

Retirement plan: Rios Partners offers a 401(k) and contributes an amount equivalent to 3% of the employee’s base salary each month to the designated fund. Employees may choose to contribute additional money into the 401(k) from their paycheck each month.

Health and Vision insurance: Rios Partners covers 90% of the premium for both the employee and their dependents for Platinum plans health coverage through United Healthcare; this includes coverage for both medical and vision insurance.

Dental insurance: Rios Partners covers 90% of the premium for both the employee and their dependents for a dental insurance plan through Delta Dental.

Disability insurance: Rios Partners will pay 100% of the premium for both short-term and long-term disability insurance provided through Guardian.

Paid Time Off (PTO) and holidays: You will be eligible for three weeks of PTO (15 days) and 12 paid holidays each year. In additional accrued PTO, Rios Partners provides additional time off for both expected and unexpected events (e.g., Bereavement Leave, Jury Duty, Voting).

Maternity, Paternity, and Adoption Leave: Rios Partners celebrates employees’ choice to become parents. We are also aware that pregnancy and caring for an infant or a newly adopted child may cause additional life complexities. As such, we provide employees twelve (12) weeks of paid leave in association with the birth of an employee’s own child or the placement of a child with the employee in connection with adoption or foster care. To be eligible for Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Leave Program, team members must: 1) Have worked at Rios Partners full-time for a minimum of 12 continuous months. 2) Be in good employment standing with Rios Partners (i.e., not on probation). 3) Request leave a minimum of 30 days in advance if possible. If this is not possible, please place your request as soon as possible once you become aware of it. Regardless of eligibility for the Rios Partners Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Leave Program, all Rios Partners employees are eligible for the Department of Labor’s Family and Medical Leave Act entitlements as well as Rios Partners Short Term Disability plan.
