About the role
We are looking to add an experienced Staff Development Project Accountant to join our growing Accounting and Finance department. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and be hybrid out of our Castle Rock, CO office.
The responsibilities and authority of the position include, but are not limited to, being working on the accounting for nearly $1 billion in assets and on the second phase of our new $300 million data center development project. You'll work directly with our Accounting, Finance, Operations and A / P teams to ensure purchase orders, receipts of goods, and invoice processing occurs timely and accurately. Additionally, you'll be the liaison between the Construction and Accounting teams, so your ability to communicate and analyze is critical for accurate project cost allocations and budget tracking.
Essential Functions
- Work closely with the operations / construction team to ensure proper cost allocations and budget tracking.
- Work directly with Construction, Operations, and A / P ensuring purchase orders, receipts, and invoice processing occurs timely and accurately.
- Ensure proper accounting requirements are met for POs and billing, includes contract and invoice analysis to determine proper accounting treatment.
- Reconcile General Ledger accounts, ensuring investigation is done and appropriate entries are made (if necessary) to clear reconciling items timely.
- Process fixed asset additions, transfers, and retirements in a timely manner.
- Understand capital versus expense accounting and appropriately apply the Company's capitalization and depreciation policy.
- Implement and maintain internal control safeguards.
- Coordinate preparation of financial, special analyses, and informational reports.
- Take ownership of all assigned month end close duties including preparation of certain monthly journal entries, Creating Assets from Proposals, Generating Depreciation Schedules, Que Additions for Capitalization, and Reconciliations. Ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Knowledge of accounting process.
- Follows established policies and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and testing requirements
- Assist in working with outside auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and testing requirements.
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiencies in the accounting processes.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, analyze and interpret financial data and as well as present solutions after the analysis is performed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines.
- Perform duties that require strong comprehension, analytical, research, composition, communication, and organizational skills.
- Perform duties that require considerable initiative, independent judgment, problem solving, decision making and strong communication skills.
