SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for preparing and installing the underground pipelines for storm, sanitation, drains and/or water main.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but is not limited to the following:
- Install and repair storm, sanitation and/or water structures and pipelines systems
- Lay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisor
- Climb in and out via ladder of trenches up to 20 feet deep
- Cut pipes to required lengths with gas powered saw
- Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction
- Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue
- Wet/Dry tapping holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
- Train others in pipe-laying techniques
- Conduct tests and inspections of products, services and/or processes to evaluate quality or performance
- Performs other duties as assigned
