A Telematics Technician is a Fleet Department field-based position responsible for the execution of all telematics hardware related activities. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing analog & CAN Bus telematics hardware in construction equipment & vehicle application. electrical systems, components, and electrical schematics. Working closely with the Telematics Administrator, the Telematics Technician will help to maintain a high level of performance from the telematics programs that align with company expectations.
Job Functions:
- Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, & repair/replace third party telematics devices on construction equipment fleet (equipment & vehicles) in a field/project environment
- Complete work order documentation to capture work scopes
- Interface with internal and external customers to monitor and measure all telematics health & performance
- Work with OEMs and 3rd party telematics providers to resolve telematics related issues
- Work with Ripa business groups to identify telematics hardware needs for specialty equipment, when applicable
- Evaluate solutions and provide recommendations for complex telematics health/performance issues such as inconsistent cellular connectivity and non-powered asset tracking
- Understand the data within daily/weekly/monthly telematics “health” reports
- Identify & facilitate corrective actions for non-compliant device performance in multiple software platforms
- Assist with telematics field operations, when applicable, for data collection
- (May require local field/project travel)
- Other duties assigned as needed
- Complies with and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
Position Requirements:
- A minimum 1-3 years of experience as a telematics program technician involving OEM and/or third-party telematics solutions
- Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics
- Must be able to properly use multi-meter
- Understanding of basic telematics data reporting principles
- Analog/CAN Bus telematics installation experience/comprehension
- Machine control data management experience a plus (Trimble Earthworks)
- Must be people-oriented with the ability to build business relationships
- Exceptional customer service and organizational skills are required
- Basic computer skills including MS Office Suite applications, smartphones, and tablets
- The ability to work independently and with indirect oversight

- Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment & vehicles
- Compliance with all regulatory & company regulations and policies
- Must be able to work overtime weekly, as needed
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record
- Pass background check and preemployment drug screening
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- College or Associate degree
- Experience with Lytx camera solutions
- Experience with Fleetwatcher, Visionlink/Unified Fleet, Komtrax, Volvo Care, & JDlink telematics solutions
