Our Edge Platform team takes ownership for planning, building, maintaining and operating our global platform. We design, develop and deploy critical control technologies including the hardware, software and network infrastructure that provide the technical underpinnings for all of Akamai's products. Our team ensures consistent availability and performance for our customers.
About the Program
As a participant in our programs, you will gain valuable experience and make contributions through meaningful project work. You will have the opportunity to join us for training, networking events, and engagements with company leadership. Our 12-week intern program starts in May.
Work with industry leaders
As part of this team, you will contribute to the analysis, design and implementation of system software that brings new functionality, increased security, increased reliability, and enhanced scalability to Akamai's mapping control system. You will have the support of team members who will help you learn about this complex control system. The team relies on the abilities of all its members to develop innovative and elegant solutions in a highly dynamic environment. You must be able to work collaboratively within your small team and with other teams at Akamai.

As a Software Engineer Intern within the Mapping team, you will be responsible for:
- Analyzing the behavior of Internet traffic on our platform
- Collaborating on efforts to define the best statistical models to represent this traffic
- Work on simulation and analysis models that help us assess proposed control strategies
- Work with team members to identify critical questions that we want to address
To be successful in this role you will:
- Currently be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, Operations Research or a related field and returning to school after completion of the internship
- Have a strong background in statistics (previous data analysis experience is a plus)
- Be able to write simulation code in Python (preferable)
- Have strong communication and written skills, and enjoy collaborating and solving problems with others
