Part-Time Head Basketball Coach

RISE Academy is a subsidiary of RISE Education System, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Cognia. It is our mission to promote the holistic development of the child through an authentic and experiential student learning experience. This is accomplished by educating the child in the formation of faith, family, and community. RISE Academy strives for the development of the whole child by providing excellence in academic preparation in a faith-based environment. We are looking to hire a part-time, in-person Head Basketball Coach for the 2024-2025 school year at RISE Academy in San Jose, California.

The Head Basketball Coach will report to the Sports Coordinator and be responsible for developing and expanding the basketball program at RISE Academy. This includes coaching teams at various age levels, overseeing skill development programs, and supporting the introduction of a high school basketball program.

Responsibilities :

Plan, organize, and lead basketball training sessions for student-athletes across different age groups.

Coach and manage RISE Academy basketball teams in practices, games, and tournaments.

Develop a structured player development program focusing on skill progression, teamwork, and game fundamentals.

Assist in launching the high school basketball program by recruiting players, coordinating logistics, and fostering program growth.

Promote basketball participation and engagement within the school community.

Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by enforcing proper guidelines, training techniques, and emergency procedures.

Maintain basketball equipment and ensure facilities are properly set up for practices and games.

Communicate regularly with parents, school leadership, and community members about program updates, schedules, and student progress.

Coordinate with other coaches and staff to align basketball programming with the school's broader athletic and student development goals.

Travel off-site for games, tournaments, and training as needed.

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school-wide events.

Other administrative duties as assigned to support the basketball program's growth.

Required Skills / Qualities :

Experience coaching basketball at the youth, middle school, or high school level.

Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

Ability to create and implement structured basketball training programs.

Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategies.

CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical ability to actively participate in training sessions and games.

Preferred Skills / Qualities :

2 years of experience in coaching, basketball program development, or athletics administration.

Experience launching or expanding a school-based or community basketball program.

Familiarity with high school basketball league structures and competition requirements.
