ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RiseBoro’s Housing Navigator, Home 4 Good, will serve as an instrumental liaison between identified landlord partners and homelessness programs and supportive social services. They will screen, assess and refer clients for self-sufficiency and economic empowerment programs to promote housing stability upon relocation, as well as anti-eviction programs, financial assistance or charitable donations to resolve issues with rental arrears. The Navigator will work independently of other RiseBoro staff and be responsible for developing relationships with the partner landlord staff to maximize effectiveness. Navigator will also advocate so that every individual and / or household has a holistic housing service plan, is supported throughout their housing crisis, and has their short-term and long-term challenges addressed. Specific duties and responsibilities include :
Serve as a full-time, remote presence for identified landlord partner
Liaise with landlord staff to receive referrals of households; perform outreach to all households referred to the program in a timely manner
Screen, assess and refer clients to supportive services and / or financial assistance programs that fit their specific needs with the goal to establish housing stability and / or reduce or eradicate their arrears
Work with tenants to maintain and / or access housing assistance subsidies that will aid in their overall stability (e.g. CityFHEPS, EHV)
Employ a trauma-informed approach to ensure clients are referred to the appropriate service
Conduct follow-up assessments with each household to ensure they reached their intended referral (workforce, financial coaching, Homebase, community-based organizations) as well as maintain housing stability for a period of 12 months following program enrollment
Form, develop and strengthen relationships with community providers within and outside program cluster to ensure smooth referral hand-offs
Track data and outcomes, adhering to program metrics, using designated tools designed for the program
Troubleshoot solutions to clients’ crises as they arise; assist clients in accessing services by providing advocacy and support
Provide housing technical assistance and training to landlord staff members as needed
Other duties as assigned by program supervisor or senior leadership
COMPETENCIES
Experience in homeless services; proficient background knowledge of eviction prevention, NYC shelter system, public benefits, housing eviction proceedings, and other homeless services
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Able to form interdisciplinary relationships, think critically and make informed decisions
Experience working with clients, particularly those with multiple, overlapping challenges / barriers to housing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; organized and detail-oriented
Proficiency with various computer programs including Microsoft Office programs and Google Docs
Ability to manage time and multiple tasks simultaneously to execute goals
Spanish proficiency required
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree required with a minimum of 1 year of experience in eviction prevention services
