What are the responsibilities and job description for the Election Fellow position at Rising Voices, a Project of Center for Empowered Politics?
We are seeking passionate and driven individuals to join our Elections Fellowship Program. As an Elections Fellow, you will play a critical role in supporting our elections work, including voter outreach, education campaigns, and policy advocacy. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of election administration and voter engagement while contributing to the strengthening of democracy.
This position will be funded by PIVOT in partnership with Rising Voices. The vision of PIVOT is to be a collective voice for progressive Vietnamese Americans, to engage and empower Vietnamese Americans through civic engagement and leadership development, and to support policies and candidates that are aligned with our values.
Key Responsibilities:

- Voter Outreach and Engagement: Assist in planning and executing voter outreach initiatives, including canvassing, phone banking, text messaging, and outreach at community events.
- Education Campaigns: Develop and distribute educational materials on voter rights, registration processes, and election dates along with providing cultural and other expertise to other organizations.
- Policy Advocacy: Support advocacy efforts for policies that enhance voter access and protect voting rights. Monitor legislative developments and participate in coalition meetings.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data on voter participation and engagement. Prepare reports to inform strategy and measure impact.
- Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for various election-related activities such as door knocking or lit drops (if possible).
- Communications: Assist in creating mailers and other print outreach activities to raise awareness about elections and our work.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- Current undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university.
- Passion for voting rights, democracy, and civic engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with community organizing, volunteer coordination, or advocacy is a plus.
- Experience with campaigns and knowledge of the Vietnamese-American community preferred, but not required.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Computer or laptop with webcam capabilities.
- Ability to speak, read, or write in Vietnamese preferred, but not required.
- Valid Driver’s License and/or access to reliable transportation within the metro Detroit area.
- Comfort working with groups of people who are diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, age, religious affiliation, English language proficiency, class, education background, immigration status, and ability.
