As an Underwriting Specialist at Oxford Risk Management Group, you will be required to execute critical thinking and should have strong communication skills, a high level of organization, the ability to multitask often, and be able to consistently provide world class customer service to our clients. The Underwriting Specialist must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment, that is mission-driven, results-driven, and community oriented.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies and the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.
The Underwriting Specialist will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Analyze P&C Insurance policies for completion and to identify gaps in coverage
- Analyze loss runs/claims history and propose appropriate terms & conditions as necessary.
- Complete commercial policy intake forms
- Conduct underwriting calls with clients to discuss uninsured, or underinsured risks, and obtain appropriate data for actuarial pricing
- Review policy renewal information, develop and underwrite a renewal position, and provide a quote summary with supporting documentation to be approved for sign-off
- Submit case files for risk analysis reporting, and actuarial pricing
- Review large amounts of information and raw data for accuracy
- Send underwriting documents to clients to support suggested eligible coverages for current policy year
- Explain definitions of Oxford’s various lines of coverages
- Review and coordinate with the Claims Department for underwriting sign-off
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5 years of underwriting experience required
- 2 years of experience reviewing commercial property & casualty policies & servicing claims required
- P&C license or industry designation preferred
- P&C background reviewing policies to ensure complete files and identifying gaps in coverage
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilities
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
- Captive insurance experience is preferred
