Our client, a dynamic employee benefits and financial planning firm dedicated to serving small and medium-sized businesses with excellence and personalized service, is looking to elevate their operations by combining two key roles — bookkeeping and financial planning support — into one pivotal position.
They are seeking a highly organized and financially savvy professional to serve as their Controller & Financial Planning Associate. This is a hybrid role that requires strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, as well as the ability to support and help manage a boutique financial planning practice. This individual will work closely with the owner to help manage client relationships, support financial planning activities, and take ownership of internal financial operations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the structure of numbers and the nuance of helping people navigate financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Controller / Bookkeeping Duties
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations: AP/AR, general ledger, reconciliations, payroll oversight
• Maintain and organize all financial records, statements, and reports
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting for internal use
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Work with external CPA on tax filings and year-end financials
• Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and controls
• Oversee QuickBooks or other accounting software systems
Financial Planning Support
• Assist financial advisor in servicing and managing client relationships
• Prepare and update client financial plans, statements, and projections
• Process new account paperwork, transfers, beneficiary changes, and other service items
• Maintain client data in CRM and financial planning tools
• Coordinate client meetings and follow-up tasks
• Research retirement planning options and product recommendations
• Serve as a key point of contact for client communication and support
• Help build processes and systems that scale the financial planning offering
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3–5 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or controller work
• 2 years of experience in a financial planning or advisory firm preferred
• Familiarity with QuickBooks (or similar), Microsoft Excel, and financial planning software (e.g., eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, or similar)
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive financial information with integrity and discretion
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• CFP coursework or interest in pursuing the designation is a plus
