HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Ritter Dirt and Asphalt is looking to hire a heavy equipment operator with 3 years of experience.
If hired, you will work closely with Ritter’s ownership team. You’ll operate construction and paving equipment, monitor quality control and help supervise the crew as they work on public works, and commercial and residential projects throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Job functions:
· Must be able to safely use the following: backhoe, mini excavator, grader, loader, truck, roller, compactor, hand tools, laser level and other heavy and lightweight equipment.
· Help manage projects as needed, either alongside or in the absence of Ritter’s ownership team.
· Grade property, excavate and backfill trenches and lay pipe.
· Dig around existing utilities.
· Install gravel, rock, fill, topsoil and asphalt with great attention to detail.
· Observe materials during installation and adjust machine settings or material flow as needed.
· Foundation prep and utility installation.
· Rolling and compacting.
· Load, unload and transport tools and other construction equipment to and from job sites.
· Fuel vehicles as needed before each shift.
· Perform routine inspection and light maintenance on equipment (check oil, grease, water, tires, etc.)
· Operate equipment in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· 3 years’ experience operating heavy equipment, including paving projects, is required.
· Clean driving record and valid Washington State driver’s license.
· A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to acquire one within one year of employment.
· Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Must pass a drug test.
· Must have reliable transportation and a cell phone.
· Able to work outside in all weather conditions.
· Able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

· Perform detail orientated work.
· Dependable and on time.
· Excellent communication, observation and listening skills.
· Able to effectively lead a small team.
· Read blueprints and other construction-related documents.
· Skilled in troubleshooting and decision-making.
· Physical stamina and strength.
· Follow instructions, including all safety procedures and protocols.
Work schedule:
· Full-time, 30 per week.
· Shifts are typically between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
· Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and overtime.
Compensation and work perks:
· $45 to $60 per hour, depending on experience.
· Home every night with most weekends off.
· Seven paid holidays per year.
