We are seeking a qualified Historian Support Specialist with advanced research, analytical, and writing skills to support the Army's historical efforts at Fort Liberty, NC. The ideal candidate will possess at least a Master’s degree in History, Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or a closely related field, along with demonstrated expertise in conducting oral history interviews, historical research, and publication. Familiarity with ARSOF (Army Special Operations Forces) is highly desirable but not mandatory. This role involves working with primary and secondary historical sources, capturing and preserving oral histories, and delivering detailed reports and studies that provide valuable historical insights to Army leadership.
- Master’s degree (M.A.) in History, Security Studies, Political Science/International Relations, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting historical collection efforts, including oral history interviews, research, writing, and publication.
- ARSOF knowledge/experience preferred but not required.
- Historical Collection & Research:
Develop and execute comprehensive collection plans in coordination with History Office leadership. Conduct in-depth research and analysis of both primary and secondary historical sources, and ensure the accuracy, authenticity, and archival value of the materials. Responsibilities include evaluating sources and making recommendations for their preservation or disposition, while collaborating with on-site archival staff.- May involve CONUS travel to gather material and conduct interviews.
- Collect and digitize oral history interviews and prepare detailed notes for archival purposes.
- Research & Information Papers:
Based on directives from USASOC leadership, conduct thorough research and write detailed information papers that provide historical and analytical insights. These papers will conform to the specified length, style, and format set by the History Office. Respond to historical inquiries from the USASOC Command Group, Congress, other government agencies, media, and the public as directed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to classification guidelines. - Special Studies & Scholarly Work:
Undertake comprehensive, scholarly studies on specialized historical topics as assigned by the Command Historian. These studies will be in-depth, aligning with specific guidelines on scope, classification (Unclassified to Secret), and format. The finished work will support internal distribution or external publication as deemed appropriate by USASOC leadership. - Web-Based Historical Products:
Contribute to the creation and revision of web-based historical content, including biographies of notable ARSOF figures, Medal of Honor recipients, summaries of key historical events, and social media posts. These products will enhance the Army’s digital presence and provide accessible historical knowledge. - Reporting & Status Updates:
Deliver monthly reports detailing the progress of assigned tasks, collection activities, and research projects. Ensure timely communication with History Office leadership on the status of ongoing workload.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.

- Effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with U.S. military history, especially ARSOF, is advantageous.
Salary Range: $70,000 - 90,000K
