What are the responsibilities and job description for the Livestock Caretaker position at Rivendale Farms?
We are an expanding farm in Washington County, PA with a wide variety of livestock & fruit/vegetable production. The livestock operation currently includes laying hens & meat poultry production including broilers & turkeys as well as birth to finish cattle. We are seeking a Livestock Assistant to support the Livestock Manager with all aspects of the day- to-day operations and is committed to meeting & exceeding industry standards in the care and welfare of our animals. The successful candidate will ensure appropriate and consistent care is afforded to the animals to allow for natural egg & meat production of the highest quality. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: providing & checking that proper feed & water is available to all animals, daily monitoring & evaluation of animal health, cleaning coops & barns, receiving incoming groups of poultry, routine egg collection, assisting with egg washing, cold storage inventory as well as any needed on-going maintenance to fencing, pastures, barns, coops and equipment. The Livestock Assistant would be responsible for gathering birds for harvest & assisting if necessary with the butcher process as well as maintaining the packhouse for cleanliness. Additionally, the Livestock Assistant will be expected to take the lead in the “big picture” and implement best practices in field rotations, flock management and exceptional living conditions for the animals, as well as maintaining accurate digital & paper records and submitting them in a timely manner. You must be able to tolerate a barn environment, which may include animal dander, dust, blood & odors.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license & willing to complete a background check
- Previous animal husbandry/poultry experience required
- Ability to operate equipment such as bobcats, tractors and ATV’s
- Self motivated, detail oriented and comfortable working alone
- Able to ensure a safe & clean work environment.
- Reliable with a positive attitude
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Able to work in all weather conditions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
