The River Arts District (RAD) Farmers Market is an 501c3 non-profit organizations which exists to promote locally produced farm, food & craft products in the Rivers Arts District and surrounding areas by holding a weekly tailgate market, and to stimulate public interest in and access to these local products through educational outreach and market promotional efforts, thereby, supporting, preserving and improving the quality of rural and urban life in Western North Carolina. The weekly farmers market is currently the primary program of the organization. The market is a vibrant and growing community of local farmers, artisans, artists, and loyal customers. Description of Role
The Executive Director is a contracted position which includes both on-site and off-site responsibilities. The Director serves as the leader of the organization and manages weekly operations of the market while upholding the long-term strategic visions of the organization through building community relationships, fundraising, marketing, and other development activities. The Director is present at the market each week and supervises the Market Coordinator.
The market was heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene and is in need of strong leadership to rebuild. 40% - Remote Operational Management
- Oversee all communications with vendors, including weekly layout emails, payment inquires, promotional inquires, etc
- Create and manage market layout, load-in, etc
- Assess new vendor applications
- Check food safety compliance for vendors
- Conduct farm/business visits as needed to assess compliance
- Create and manage yearly operational budget for Board approval
- Maintain accurate weekly financial data and deposit vendor fees weekly at bank
- Send weekly token reimbursement checks to vendors
- Manage EBT/Snap software and ensure up-to-date compliance
- Maintain accurate weekly token accounting data for internal use and as part of agreements with ASAP, including weekly and monthly inventories of Farm Fresh Bucks. Submit all necessary ASAP reporting within 1 week of market.
- Ensure all relevant permits are attained and maintained from the City of Asheville and insurance is maintained
- Maintain PO Box and check regularly for mail
- Keep valuable market property, including tokens, iPad, keys, in a safe and secure location outside of market hours
- Create and send weekly newsletter
- Respond to all inquires, emails, etc. in a timely manner
- Purchase items as necessary for market operations
- Hire and supervise all market staff
- Complete other relevant tasks as required
30% - On-site Operational Management
- Arrive 2 hours before market begins, remain onsite for the duration of the market and through clean up
- Support load-in and set up of the market, including but not limited to vendor placement, signs, musician booth, market info booth
- Staff market info booth during market hours as a representative of the market
- Oversee transactions of credit card tokens, EBT/SNAP tokens, Farm Fresh Produce Prescription tokens, and merchandise during market hours
- Enforce market rules and regulations as necessary
- Oversee clean up of site after market, including but not limited to locking facilities, picking up trash, etc.
10% - Development and Fundraising
- Oversee online presence of the organization, including social media, website, calendar listing, news articles, press releases, etc
- Create marketing materials, both digital and print format
- Maintain up-to-date sponsorship promotional information, solicit sponsors, and manage sponsor forms, agreements and payments
- Design and launch two individual fundraising campaigns per year
- Design and launch customer benefits program
- Create and manage yearly operational budget for approval from Board of Directors
- Complete other relevant tasks as needed
10% - Community Relationships
- Represent the RAD Farmers Market at relevant community events and meetings, including tabling
- Maintain and grow a strong positive working relationship with ASAP through clear communication, sharing photos and social media posts, attending the Farmers Market Summit, etc.
- Maintain and grow collaborative working relationships with management of other local markets through meetings, visiting other markets, sharing systems and policies, co-creating marketing ideas, etc
- Maintain and grow strong positive relationship with site owner, AB Tech, through prompt communication, site management, and adapting to changes as required
- Maintain and grow strong working relationships with vendors and customers
10% - Non-profit management and strategic planning
- Uphold the vision of the RAD Farmers Market and continually make decisions to support this mission
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop long-term strategic planning goals and metrics for implementation
- Maintain open communication with Board of Directors regarding non profit compliance and any relevant legal matters
- Attend Board meetings as necessary
- Promote and model an authentic enthusiasm for local food, farms, and community
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
