Job Title: Lifeguard
Reports To: Team lead/General Manager/Board of Directors
Employment: Full-time/Part-Time Seasonal Employment

A Lifeguard shall supervise swimming activities at RBMC Pool and ensure all policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are being adhered to. A Lifeguard’s duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce pool rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water and administering first aid to injured swimmers.
Responsibilities for Lifeguard
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the water
- Monitor water chemistry
- Maintain a clean and safe pool environment by assisting in the cleaning and maintaining of pool related facilities and equipment
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Able to act quickly and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
- Sit and or Stand in the sun and heat while being vigilant on monitoring the water and pool deck.
Qualifications for Lifeguard
- Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water
- Ability to work on days, weekends and evenings
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Highly-skilled in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Strong knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedure
- Ability to accurately prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Able to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Excellent customer service skills to include communicating clearly and respectfully to pool patrons.
Requirement
- Must currently have or pass before being hired a Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED certification course. Accepted courses are only through The American Red Cross or Ellis and Associates. Any other course must be accepted by Berkeley County before being considered.
